How to Measure For Mens Underwear

Getting the right fit for your underwear is the difference between all day comfort and hating your life. Tight underwear is uncomfortable, clingy, and digs in. Loose underwear makes you feel like hitching up your bottom all day long. Neither is comfortable, and neither is a great look. The best thing you can do is find your right size before you buy. Measure yourself properly, and you’ll be able to get the mens underwear that works for you.

Why Measure

Why should you measure for mens underwear, and not go off your general size? It’s fine when your outer clothes are a bit snug or a bit loose. Your comfort really starts with your underwear. It doesn’t matter how well fitted everything else is; if this doesn’t work for you, you’re going to be uncomfortable no matter what. Measuring for mens underwear should only take you a minute, and that may include buying the tape measure!

Around the Waist

When you have to measure for underwear, there’s only one measurement that matters: your waist size. All the other measurements for the garment are taken from that one, so it’s very important to get an accurate reading. Don’t just go off your pants; break out the measuring tape!

For the best fit, use a soft tape measure. Wrap it around the fullest part of your waist, usually lower rather than higher. Add a finger’s width for comfort and stretch. This also allows for the fact that your body weight typically fluctuates, meaning you’ll be thicker when you’re bulking and slimmer when you’re cleansing. Some slight flexibility means you’ll have the perfect size every time.

Once you have your measurement, consult the sizing chart of the brand you’re looking to buy. Each brand has their own sizes, so don’t skip this step!

What to Do When You’re in Between

Sometimes, even often, you’ll come to realize that you’re actually in between inches or sizes. The trick is simple rounding. If the difference is less than half an inch, use the lower number. For half an inch and greater, the higher. The exception is if you’re on the cusp between two sizes. When in doubt, choose the larger size, as constricting underwear is really a difficult thing to bear. That way, when you do bulk, you don’t create problems for yourself.

Take Advantage of Return Policies

Returning clothes is a hassle and a half. There’s no better time to take advantage of a return policy (if offered) than with underwear. You should be investing in great pieces that increase your comfort and happiness. Read over the return and exchange policies carefully before making a purchase. Once you have it, don’t settle for OK--send it back to get a great fit.

Taking three minutes out of your day to properly size your mens underwear is a great investment of time. One measurement, one sizing consultation, and the willingness not to settle for less can do wonders for your comfort. Measure for mens underwear and get the fit you need!
